You are Dead
Your character has had its hitpoints reduced to -11 and is thus considered "dead." Your character will be transitioned to an area called the Fugue, and a corpse that others can move or interact with will remain in the location where the character died. However, in usual gameplay such as dying to a monster or on a scripted quest your character has the option of respawning by speaking with an NPC in the Fugue. This should be roleplayed as your character surviving a near-death experience. It is common for players to portray their character as having suffered mental/internal injury when recovering in this way.
Respawning
In order to maintain the difficulty of the server, respawning comes with a penalty. You will lose 1/6 of your current XP.
You have several options for respawning:
Respawn to corpse
Respawning directly to your corpse places you back where you died, or wherever your corpse has been moved. Please make sure to confirm that it's safe to do so - i.e. there are no remaining monsters or traps - prior to selecting this option, since your character will respawn prone with 1 HP at that location. It is common courtesy for players to speak to one another through IG chat to confirm the current status of their corpse when selecting this option.
Respawn to a safe place
If desired you can elect for your character to respawn to a safe place inside Ephia's Well.
Raise Dead
Raise Dead spell has been disabled for Cleric PCs.
Examples of Death XP Penalty
Example 1
Your character dies having reached level 6. The characters total XP is 15,000 at time of death.
Respawning will deduct 2500 XP, the character now has 12,500 XP
Example 2
Your character dies at level 8, having a total of 34,000 XP at time of death.
Respawning will deduct 5667 XP, the character now has 28,333 XP and remains level 8.
Permanent Death
At times within EFU, you may find yourself in a situation that may have the possibility of permanently ending your character. With the possibility of fame and fortune, you run the risk of your character's tale coming to a close.
Death from PvP
If you died to PvP, your character is marked as permanently ("truly") dead. This type of end to your character is nearly always irreversible; resurrection or a life returning miracle are extremely rare.
Death on a DM Event
If you died during a DM quest or event in which the DM announced that perma-death rules applied, your character is similarly "truly" dead and should not respawn, even if able to do so with the NPC dialog. Feel free to consult with the DM that ran the event for more information.
