Death in EFU
You are Dead
Your character has had its hitpoints reduced to -11 and is thus considered "dead."
As a matter of IC, your character is perhaps still alive IC and you have the option of respawning. This should be roleplayed as your character surviving a near-death experience. It is common for players to feign mental/internal injury when recovering in this way.
Respawning
In order to maintain the difficulty of the server, respawning comes with a penalty. You will lose approximately 1/3 of your current XP. A portion of the XP will be returned to you over time as you spend time in game in the form of 'Recovery XP'. This XP will be returned with the penalty of annoying motivational messages.
You have several options for respawning:
Respawn to corpse
Respawning directly to your corpse places you back where you died. Please make sure to confirm that it's safe to do so - i.e. there are no remaining monsters or traps - prior to selecting this option. It is common courtesy for players to speak to one another through IG chat to confirm the current status of their corpse.
Respawn to a safe place
You can respawn to a "safe" place in Ring 99.
In EFU: City of Rings, you DO NOT drop your pack when you respawn to a safe place, no matter your level.
Raise Dead
Raise Dead has been disabled for Cleric PCs. Raise Dead is now a "Miracle of the Waters" and when performed by NPCs now costs XP as well from the PCs who wish to raise the dead PC - the cost being the XP death penalty to the PC divided by each of the PCs near the NPC.
Death Recovery Bonus
You will receive a recovery bonus when respawning, being raised or being resurrected from death. Functioning similarly to the character advancement bonus, the Death Recovery Bonus gives you a small amount of XP over time up to a certain point, or when you have recovered a set amount of XP. These numbers are set and overwritten each time you leave the fugue in the mentioned ways and will not stack, so only the last death is considered in this fashion.
The recovery amount is (30 - character level)% of the XP you lose, not counting permanent XP and the level is what you were on death. 50 XP is given you over time until it reaches this amount.
The recovery limit is the XP you have after leaving the fugue + the recovery amount you will receive over time.
Any XP gained counts towards the Recovery XP pool. This means that XP gained from quests while you have an active Recovery period will reduce the total amount of Recovery XP earned.
Examples of Death Recovery Bonus
Example 1
You die having reached level 6. Your total XP is 15 000.
Respawning will cost you 5000 XP. Recovery amount will be 24% of 5000 XP. You will receive 1200 XP over time.
You are now level 5 with 10 000 XP. The recovery limit is 10 000 + 1200 = 11 200 XP. Upon reaching this the remaining recovery amount is set to 0.
Example 2
You die having reached level 8. Your total XP is 28 000.
Respawning will cost you 9333 XP. Recovery amount will be 22% of 9333 XP. You will receive 2053 XP over time.
You are now level 6 with 18 667 XP. The recovery limit is 18 667 + 2053 = 20 720 XP. Upon reaching this the remaining recovery amount is set to 0.
Example 3
You die having reached level 8. Your total XP is 28 000.
Raise will cost you 4667 XP. Recovery amount will be 22% of 4667 XP. You will receive 1027 XP over time.
You are now level 7 with 23 333 XP. The recovery limit is 23 333 + 1027 = 24 360 XP. Upon reaching this the remaining recovery amount is set to 0.
Permanent Death
At times within EFU you may find yourself in a situation that may have the possibility of permanently ending your character. With the possibility of fame and fortune, you run the risk of your character's tale coming to a close.
Death from PvP
If you died to PvP, your character is marked as permanently ("truly") dead. Escaping from here will thus require action from someone still alive (i.e. certain spells or abilities) or from a DM.
Death on a DM Event
If you died during a DM quest or event in which the DM announced that perma-death rules applied, you are likewise stuck here and should not respawn even if able to do so. Feel free to consult with the DM that ran the event for more information.
